Strangedog Exposed

Custom Kindle cover fabric often purchased locally.

W.Columbia, SC   Local entrepreneur and Internet mogul, Frank Nichols has been accused of not using expensive designer fabric in his custom Kindle covers.  Astute observer, Kim. R., reported on an Amazon discussion board that the custom covers are not only "tacky" but use ordinary material that can be purchased at Jo-Ann fabrics.  She further indicated they could be easily reproduced with some cheap fabric, tacky glue and stiff board for a few bucks.  In her own words she indicated that they "Just seem overpriced to me".

We were able to track down Mr. Nichols today, finding him at his sewing machine, and granted an exclusive interview as follows:

Question : Is the rumor true that you purchase your material from Jo-Ann fabrics?

Frank : Guilty as charged.  I have bought some material at Jo-Ann's, Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, some on the Internet and often purchased canvas from a retired awning maker at the flea market.

Question: Are you admitting that you don't use designer fabric and why would you buy from these stores?

Frank:  Personally, I'm not sure I even know what designer fabric is.  There's not a lot of choice for fabric in a small town, not to mention these stores are fairly close.

OVERPRICE ALERT

Amazon Kindle

Replacement Book Cover

$24.95

Genuine  vinyl, jaws of life required to force the release of the kindle from the secure grey tabs.  Black

Strangedog Custom

Replacement Book Cover

$24.95

Handmade custom cover many styles and fabrics except vinyl.  Possibly overpriced!

Question:  What about the claim of tacky and overpriced?

Frank:  I have to admit the stock cover is fairly classy if you're into black vinyl, elastic and don't mind your Kindle falling out.  I probably am seriously overpriced at $24.95 for a handmade cover considering that's the same price as the stock cover.  As a matter of record, Kim R. indicates she has no issue with the stock cover.

Question : Your covers received a couple of other insightful comments in response to Kim's astute observations.

Frank:  If I'm not mistaken, since some of the responses have been withdrawn, my covers were described as tacky, poor quality, flimsy, cheap fabric and overpriced.  In the spirit of full disclosure, I decided to share these opinions that have been described as constructive criticism.
