I Still Don't Get it

WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH K2

When will you have covers available for Kindle II?

Having just received a K2 on Feb. 26th, my first cover was completed in record time on Feb. 27th, unfortunately that cover and several more were discarded as I made minor tweaks.  Perfection has a downside!

Why did you wait so long to make a custom cover while others were already taking orders even before K2 was released?

As previously mentioned, perfection has a downside.  It would have been a piece of cake to make a K2 cover, sight unseen, based on the published dimensions if I made a rectangular case with four elastic corners.  I have a fundamental problem with using elastic, although it would be much faster making a cover with elastic.  The simple fact is that elastic by nature stretches and looses elasticity over time, evidenced by half the under shorts in my drawer.

How's the new K2 cover look?

It looks pretty much like the custom Kindle covers for the original but much slimmer.  It has a uniform thickness of 3/4 inches.

How is it secured on the left side?

There are two very small smooth metal clips on the left that are approximately 1/2" wide.  Unlike elastic, under ordinary circumstances, metal does not stretch out of shape.

What about the right side?

Currently I have again sewn a postage sized square of Velcro to the case.  An even smaller square or circle of Velcro is attached to the back of the Kindle.  My first attempt, the cover that's now in the trash, had elastic on the right side corners.  Yes, it also secured the Kindle and was far easier than sewing a Velcro square through the cover, but I'm far too much of a perfectionist to take the easy route.

What if I hate sticking Velcro on the back of my new Kindle?

Not a problem, buy another brand of cover that has elastic on the corners.  I believe in full disclosure and make every attempt to describe my covers.  I am constantly making modifications and improvements and unlike some foreign sweatshop worker, I actually use a Kindle.  I have used the same cover for 14 months, reading scores of books for hundreds of hours on countless flights and it has yet to fall out!

While not a fan or stock holder of Velcro, that 1/2 inch square works.  There's a chance I will find another method to attach the right side, it just won't be a piece of elastic.
